Care for Your Skin Better With These Tips
By Paul Rothbart
Every part of the body needs some level of care. Some parts receive all of the attention they need on a regular basis. But some can be overlooked. The skin is one of those parts that many people simply wash and dry as if it were an article of clothing. But as the body's largest organ, it needs more care than that to really be healthy. There are several things you can incorporate into your lifestyle that will help you have healthy, great-looking skin.
Exercise in the Morning
Exercise is certainly good for your overall health but it can also help your skin. When you work out, your body gets hot. Your body deals with this with sweat, but to get the heated blood to the surface of the skin, its blood vessels dilate. The body normally pumps blood first to the brain and core organs. When you exercise, the skin gets extra blood flow, bringing it oxygen and nutrients. This can give it a healthy glow. Working out in the morning means that your skin starts the day with a health boost.
Change Your Shower Habits
A hot shower helps you feel clean and feels good but it also strips the skin of essential oils. Cool showers are much better for the skin. If you need to feel the heat, soap up under hot water. After rinsing, turn the water down to cool and let it wash over you for 5-10 minutes. This helps hydrate your skin and can assist with blood flow. After your shower, don't rub vigorously with a towel. It's better to gently pat dry. Use a moisturizer after to really make sure your skin is hydrated.
Manage Stress
Stress can be terrible for your mental health. But it can also have a negative impact on many body parts, including the skin. Research conducted at exam time at Stanford University found that students with higher stress levels had more severe acne breakouts. The stress hormone cortisol, can make the skin more oily and lessen its ability to fight bacteria. Meditation, yoga, and deep breathing exercises are excellent for managing stress and can prevent you from getting skin conditions such as rosacea, psoriasis, and seborrhea.
Every part of the body needs care and the skin is no different. In addition to the general ways to care for the whole body, there are things that help your skin stay healthy and look great. It's the barrier between your insides and everything out there. It deserves care.
