Exercise May Be Motionless -- Seriously
By Tom Herrin
Exercise is usually a pretty busy sight when others are doing it. People may be seen running, biking, playing games, or acting as part of an exercise group. Moving with regularity is often the expectation. For those who are trying to take an active role in improving their health, these are the things that come to mind. The fact is, it doesn’t to be a flurry of unending activity. It is certainly helpful to move, but some people may have reasons why they are unable to do so but still need to work out. One of the best ways to do this in these circumstances is to engage in isometrics. Isometrics is a resistance exercise with virtually no movement.
They May Get More Muscles Involved
When people do more traditional exercises, they often are able to work only 90 percent or less of the available muscles. With isometrics, they are able to surpass that. Since isometrics can isolate particular muscles with greater success, they may be able to involve as much as 95 percent of the available muscles. This can be pretty productive as this kind of muscles activation, as it is referred to, can help to train the muscles to work permanently at their full potential.
They May Help with Rehabilitation
So many times, after people have suffered injuries, they have a difficult time trying to help the muscles recover. It may seem that every time they begin, they have another injury or setback. With isometrics, people can concentrate on building strength in the muscles that have been injured without risking damage to joints. They can be an effective part of a good plan for recovery. They can be a good fit for those who are older and would rather not take chances of new injuries.
They May Save Time and Space
Isometrics don’t require any equipment. They also don’t need much space or time, making them ideal for the busy person who wants to get in a workout at break or for a few minutes when they get home. I have done some isometrics in the past and been pleased with the results. If you would give them a try for only a few weeks, you would have nothing to lose and much to gain. They may be worth considering as an addition to your pro-health program.
