Bread May Be Healthier for You Than You Think
By Tom Herrin
A lot of things tend to be blamed for having a negative effect on our health. Some of this is for good reason, but others may get a bad rap for things long past. As for bread, a hundred years ago the introduction of mass-produced white bread was blamed for an increase in the instance of colon cancer. In response to this, requirements were added for some of these products to be enriched with more vitamins and other nutrients. It was a move in the right direction. Today there are some really good kinds of bread available for purchase, and they offer a variety of benefits.
Rye Bread
Many people have likely never tried rye bread. It has a little different kind of flavor. We began eating it years ago when we tried it in certain kinds of sandwiches. It is very good with the right foods. It is believed to possibly help possibly reduce body weight and improve insulin sensitivity. It also may help to keep people feeling fuller longer. It is a fuller bodied bread than many other kinds. It also is pretty low in sugar and reasonably high in protein.
Whole Grain Bread
For those looking for bread with more fiber, whole grain bread is the real deal. It may have any of several different kinds of grains. It will have plenty of fiber and a good supply of vitamins. For those who are concerned about their sugar, this can be a great choice. Some are made with no sugar and few calories. This can truly be a guilt-free bread to include on your menu. It may complement any good meal without fear of compromising your efforts to eat healthy.
Get the Family Involved
When we try to eat healthy, it is a good idea to get everyone to be on board. One of the best ways to do this is to get their input. Teach the whole family to read labels to make a good selection. The next step may be to let each take a turn in selecting a bread to try for the week. The end result may be a healthy product with taste that everyone can enjoy. You all win as each has a role in building a healthy diet. A healthier family should always be a goal.
