Fall Can Be Your Season of Good Health
By Donna Stark
As those hot summer temperatures transition into the cooler days of fall, we should think of the changes we can make to improve our overall health and wellness. It's time to put those lazy-day habits into storage with your summer clothes and start fresh with healthy ones as the new season begins to knock at your door. Here are some good ideas on what to do to ensure a happy, healthy, and activity-filled autumn.
Avoid Germs
Do you want to be sick in bed and cooped up at home for days on end during this beautiful season? Didn't think so! So, to keep that from happening, you need to avoid those germs that love to make people sick. Make sure you are staying healthy by following the self-care tips below.
- Wash your hands frequently
- Use hand sanitizer when needed
- Try to avoid large crowds in tight quarters
- Clean and disinfect the common areas of your home several times a week
- Avoid others who are showing signs of illness
Head Outdoors
There is no better time of the year to take advantage of what Mother Nature has to offer than the fall season. The leaves are changing color, the air is clean and crisp, and the temperatures are starting to cool down. Spending time outside isn't just pleasing to your senses though. It's also very beneficial to your health. In addition to boosting your immune system and increasing Vitamin D exposure, your time outdoors can also help reduce a lot of your stress.
Get Active
You may have started the summer feeling and looking great, but if all of those parties, picnics, and vacations left you carrying a few extra pounds, it's time to start moving your body some more! So while you are outdoors, why don't you fit in a workout too? There is never a bad time to engage in physical activity, and the shift in weather makes it a perfect time to start!
Head to the Market
Yes, those summer berries and fresh ears of corn were out of this world, but don't forget about all the seasonal vegetables and fruit that are headed your way during fall! They are loaded with so much flavor, texture, and nutrients you won't be able to contain your excitement! So, fill your plates and get eating.
