5 Holiday Fitness Possibilities

Finding time for fitness during the holiday months may seem difficult when your to-do list is miles long. It's necessary to find the time if you hope to maintain your weight, burn calories for some of the overindulging you've done, and keep your health in check. Several holiday fitness possibilities exist that can help you meet these goals.

Home Workout 

A weekly fitness class may be hard to fit into your schedule during the holidays. Try a home workout instead that you can get done anytime you have a few minutes to spare. You don't even need equipment. Use your couch to do tricep dips. Clear the floor and do some push-ups, sit-ups, and planks. There's plenty of exercises you can try.

Family Fun

You may have family fun time planned during a holiday break. A trip to a nearby ice skating rink or ski ranch offers the perfect opportunity for both family time and fitness. Make regular trips if you can find the time so you get lots of physical activity in with your kids. If you don't have kids, go with your friends. You'll get a great workout either way.

Christmas Caroling

You see it in the movies all the time. Groups of people go door-to-door singing Christmas carols in an attempt to spread Christmas cheer. This is actually a great fitness option. All of the walking you'll do going from one house to the next provides some nice exercise. Plan a few nights of caroling before Christmas day with friends.


Shopping is a common activity done during the holiday months. Instead of getting it all done in one stretch, visit different stores over the next several weeks while you can and get a gift or two checked off your list. Walking through the aisles will help burn calories and the leisurely stroll through the store can give you time alone to unwind.

If you're looking to stay consistent, then a fitness class at a local gym may be ideal. You can have a set schedule and know exactly when you're going to be able to get that workout in.
