Everyday Actions That Damage Your Back
By Sara Butler
The world is full of dangers, especially dangers to your health and wellness. When it comes to the health of your back and neck, there are even more things to be aware of in order to stay healthy. In fact, there may be some things that seem innocent enough that you could be doing each day that actually damages your back. Here are a few of the everyday things you may be doing to put your back and neck health in danger each and every day.
Slouching
Stop what you're doing right now and do a posture check. How are you sitting? If you're slouched over your desk or on your sofa, then you may be doing some serious damage to your back and neck. Sitting slouched puts a lot of pressure on your lower back and spine. That's why it's so important to follow the advice of the chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic to take frequent breaks during the day to eliminate poor posture. It won't hurt to stand up as you work through the day, either. Think about getting a standing desk to use a little bit of the time to help.
Eating Junk Food
Eating too much junk food leads to weight gain and excess weight puts a lot of pressure on your spine, which can make any spinal conditions worse. Processed foods also create inflammation in your body and clog up your arteries, which can create health problems down the road. If you can reach and sustain a healthful weight, then you can help to prevent future back pain and live a healthier life too!
Wearing High Heels
High heels may look great and can be fun to wear on a night out, but they're terrible for your spine! High heels thrust your center of gravity forward, which then requires your body to compensate. Due to this compensation, the muscles that help to support your hips and back are strained, leading to back pain. The lesson here is to make the switch to flat shoes that have proper cushioning and arch support and break out the high heels only for special occasions.
There are so many things you can do each day that can wreak havoc on your spinal health. If you're worried that some of your daily habits may not be so back friendly, talk it over with the chiropractors at The Joint today!
