Chiropractic Clothes: What to Wear to the Appointment

By Brandi Swieter

Countless patients head to a chiropractor for the first time without any idea of what to expect. They often have no idea what to ask, what to wear, or how the visit will go. The question of what to wear is actually an important one. When it comes to chiropractic clothes, patients need to know what to wear to the appointment to make the session go smoothly.

Thin Fabric

Sweatshirts and other bulky items should be avoided. Instead, thin fabric is necessary to ensure the chiropractor can perform the adjustment without excess material interfering. Regular T-shirts and even dress shirts work well for this.

A Loose Fit

The ability to stretch and bend is necessary for a chiropractic appointment, as the doctor may need to look at the back and spine to perform an assessment. Restrictive clothing that is far too tight makes it impossible to do this with ease. Avoid jeans, button-up shirts, and other tight items. Instead, wear loose-fitting garments that you can move in well -- just make sure they’re not too large.

Yoga Pants for Women

Yoga pants have a good amount of stretch to them that makes it easy for women to bend and move as needed. Just as was previously stated, a loose fit is necessary. Jeans do not make the cut, and other buttoned up pants options are too restrictive as well. Yoga pants or a thin pair of sweatpants are the best options.

Shorts for Men

It is recommended that men wear some regular shorts for their first visit; at The Joint, there aren't gowns that can be changed into if the clothes are otherwise too restrictive. Shorts may make them feel more comfortable during this portion of the process.

Skip the Jewelry

Leave jewelry at home. Necklaces, in particular, can get in the way of the adjustment. The office may inform new patients of this instruction, especially if an X-ray or other scan is needed on the first visit to obtain a full medical exam. However, The Joint doesn't do X-rays on site. Body piercings should get removed as well, as they can get pulled during the procedure, causing pain.

Visit The Joint Chiropractic for an adjustment. Be sure to avoid wearing jewelry and wear all the right clothes for the visit. This is highly important if you want a full assessment and comfortable adjustment without any interference from clothing.
