Skip the Processed Meats
Certain meats that go through processing increase your risk of developing colon cancer. Hot dogs and lunch meats with added sodium are harmful to your health. Skip the processed meats and opt for organic versions when you're looking to improve your health.
Lean meats are best for the body, so opt for chicken and turkey over red meat more often. Doing so will also benefit your well-being.
Stop Smoking
Smoking increases your risk of colon cancer and many other versions. You should stop smoking immediately if you want to reduce your risk and promote better health. Your health won't improve immediately, but over time, the effects caused by your smoking will start to lessen.
Add Broccoli and Cauliflower to Your Diet
If you don't already eat broccoli or cauliflower regularly, you should start. These foods are great for your fiber intake and can help keep colon cancer at bay. Eating foods like these that are rich in B vitamins and folate are necessary for good digestive health.
Get More Exercise
Exercise will always be a suggestion when you're trying to keep your health in check. You need to move your body more frequently and stop sitting if you want to keep your health in check. Take a walk around your neighborhood. Follow along to a workout video on the television. Jog in place. Just do something to get your body moving and your colon will thank you.

If you've already experienced trouble with your colon, you really need to stay on top of screenings and get checked out on a routine basis. This is especially important if anyone in your family has suffered from colon cancer, which puts you at greater risk. It's best to catch things early so you have a chance of fighting it.
