4 Alternatives to Hitting the Gym
By Virginia Laird
Having time to hit the gym or the money to purchase a membership is not for everyone. In fact, there are plenty of other things a person can do to get in some exercise when the gym is not an option. Rest assured, there is no need to create a home gym, either. There are plenty of workout options available for those who need to work out sans equipment or do not have time for a structured class. Some things to try that can be done at home and without any equipment or gym membership include:
- Go for a jog
- Take a brisk walk
- Climb some stairs
- Livestream workouts
Go for a Jog
Jogging through the neighborhood can be relaxing as well as a great way to interact with your neighbors. If you would rather not jog the road, there are plenty of parks that have jogging trails. There is no need to dread jogging multiple miles a day, or begin marathon training. Research suggests that as little as one mile a day can have a positive impact on one’s health.
Take a Brisk Walk
Not a jogger? No problem! Going for a brisk walk can be just as good for the body. There is much research that recommends as little as a three-mile walk daily can be just as beneficial as a jog. For those not ready for that large of a commitment, begin small with only one mile daily and build from there.
Climb Some Stairs
Another great thing a person can do to get the blood pumping is to climb some stairs. Simply choosing to take the stairs over the elevator can have a great impact on a person’s health. It can also be a timesaver, as taking the stairs while at work can count as the workout, saving the time a person may have spent at the gym later in the day.
With the internet, it is easy to livestream workouts. This can allow a person to work out wherever they may be, as well as choose new workouts daily. The ability to chose a new workout routine or class to join daily can keep exercising fun and enjoyable.
If you need to save the money on a gym membership and still want a great workout, but do not know where to start, try one of these tips. You may find that you enjoy them more than heading to the gym.
