Smile Your Way to Longer Life

By Tom Herrin

A lot of things come pre-packaged these days.  It seems as if people can buy about whatever they want if they look hard enough.  That isn’t quite true of all things.  Some of those that are most important still require personal commitment for success.  One of those things is aging.  Everyone doesn’t age at the same rate, and some of the reason is lifestyle.  People who are pretty inactive most of the time can expect to age earlier.  There are a few things that those who remain more youthful, and maybe live longer, do regularly.  For those who want to enjoy those benefits, it is likely possible for them.

Exercise Is Essential

The body is designed for work.  When it doesn’t do any, it naturally deteriorates.  Far too many people learn that after having done too little too long   Waiting until it is too late really is just that.  Exercise maintains mobility, muscles, and blood flow, among other things.  Exercise can increase muscle mass and bone density.  This can help avoid injuries that are so common among older individuals.  It also helps the body to release chemicals that combat depression.

Sleep Allows The Body To Heal And Rebuild

Quality sleep is difficult to come by for many people.  It is worth taking the time and planning to make it work.  When people have inadequate amounts of sleep, they may have difficulty with some mental functions as well as experiencing more aging in the skin.  Sleeping while sitting in a recliner may not qualify.  Good sleep can allow the body to prepare to do more efficient work.  Creating the right environment may help.  The previously mentioned routine of exercise can go a long way toward helping to provide better sleep.

Feel Good About Life In General

If you can maintain a good outlook, you are almost certain to have better health.  Your relationship with others will improve.  Your confidence will be greater.  Believing is a large part of the battle.  Everyone loves someone who is pleasant to be around.  Studies have shown that people with good attitudes may actually be able to add years to their lives.  If you make the effort to follow a good exercise plan and get enough sleep, you will be on your way to laying the foundation for a good attitude.  Smile every chance you get.
