Short Workouts Are a Hill Away
By Tom Herrin
A majority of the time, when people think of working out, they imagine long periods of heavy sweat and quite of bit of time ticking off the clock. This can be discouraging at times due to the number of things they may be involved in. Work is not the only thing that tends to eat up time. There may be social events, school activities, maintenance at home, shopping, and countless other time-suckers. By the time they contemplate exercising, it may seem as if their plate is too full. Finding some simple ways to get a respectable workout without running into the midnight hours is possible. Walking up hills can do plenty in a short period of time.
It May Strengthen Bones
Anytime people do weight-bearing exercises, they are likely to improve bone mass. They don’t actually have to lift weights but simply lift themselves. When people walk up stairs or hills, they can exert enough force within the muscles to strengthen muscles and bones. With the amount of problems many people experience today due to soft bones, or poor bone mass, this may truly be a way of saving their overall health.
It Is Lower Impact
Anytime people can reduce the amount of pounding they do on their joints, it can save wear. The joints that tend to wear out the most over time, such as knees and ankles, can use all of the help they can get. Walking up hills can work the muscles that support these joints without inflicting damage on them. This can improve those muscles so that they may provide greater support.
It Can Save Time
Walking up hills can do more work in less time. While Ellis County may not be a roller coaster, it is not that difficult to find a few hills. They do not have to be big or long. I have used some in a nearby park to walk. As I walk up and down, I am able to shift my workout in type and intensity. Doing this can help to burn fat from some of those places that are a little harder to work. It can help to burn fat from around the organs that many of us are never really aware is even there. This kind can cause some problems that often creep up on us. If you would like to get more workout in less time, try to find those hills, and go for it.
