Exercise and Get to Know Each Other Better
By Tom Herrin
For just about everyone, the world is quite a different place than it was at the beginning of the new year. Whoever thought that 2020 was going to be so unique, and change the way so many live? It is sad that the norm has become turning on the news and hearing about large numbers of new cases and deaths from such a devastating disease. It is so overwhelming that many people simply become desensitized to it all. Spending more time at home is a good option for many. It seems to provide a better sense of security and protection from all of the things that make them feel threatened.
Ramps up Communication
When people are all in one place more than they are accustomed, it can be a great time to do more than just coexist. Doing something that allows more talking can be useful. There are lots of choices that many have not considered for quite a while. Playing board games, cards, or charades can all get everyone enthused. Other options may include doing crafts or making something together. As they work together, there is an opportunity for them to interact. The results can be a broader understanding of one another.
Add in Some Exercise
When people have some physical activity as a group, everyone can participate. Rotating leaders can mean a little more variety. The exercises don't have to be any stereotypical kinds. They may be something that shows creativity. Even games such as hide-and-seek or tug-of-war can get people going and sweating. Games with dance moves are almost always fun for everyone. Whatever it is, do it. As they do it more, the enthusiasm is sure to increase. The hope is that it can become part of a tradition and continue after everyone is fully back into whatever normal is.
Enjoy Being Together
As a family, we have a lot of fun anytime we do something together. We always try to have meals together and spend some time afterward sitting and talking. It is one of the best times for us to become better listeners. It is amazing what we can learn when we listen to others rather than lecture them about how things should be done. For our family, any of this time spent at home is pretty much of a lot of value.
