Let the Thermostat Support Health
By Tom Herrin
Anytime we have issues in our lives that cause us problems, we do what we can to fix them. If not, we give up and accept whatever comes our way. Many of us have challenges in our lives that prevent things from going our way. Some of them may require some kinds of serious intervention, and some are much more easily addressed than that. Those who study the effects of different things on any of us have discovered that one of those things is temperature. Some have come to the conclusion that many life functions may be affected by certain ranges in temperature.
Sleep Better with Different Temps
Lots of individuals have trouble sleeping well. It may be that they can't go to sleep, or it may be that they can't stay asleep. Either way, it is a big problem when someone can't get quality sleep. It has been suggested that people may sleep better when the room temperature is between 65 and 72 degrees. Many even say that the ideal temp is 68 degrees. One of the reasons for this belief is that temperatures that are too warm may disrupt the sleep cycles which are so important. If this is the case, turning down the thermostat at bedtime may be a good practice.
Weight Loss May Respond to Certain Temps
With all of the effort that many people put into trying to lose weight, one would think many would try anything. Temperature may be one of the things that can come into play here. Studies have discovered that the best range for weight loss may be a very specific one, and that is 64-67 degrees. There may be something to this in terms of burning calories because it has also been said that those who shiver, as from the cold, may burn as much as five times the calories. This is a pretty big number and may be worth giving a try.
The Proof May Be in the Pudding
I have had trouble sleeping in the past. As I remembered that I usually slept better when the outside temps were cooler, I began to turn down my thermostat when I went to bed each night. It seemed to work well. As a result, I found that I slept better, longer when I did this. For me, this has become a regular practice, and I am pleased with the outcome.
