Picking the Right Resolutions for the New Year

While many people chose to announce some New Year’s resolutions on the day, there is still plenty of time left to pick some goals to stick to as the month continues. Even throughout the year, people can evaluate their choices and determine a new resolution they want to pursue for a better life. It’s best to wait to choose a resolution after ensuring it’s the right pick.

Make Realistic Resolutions

It’s important to be realistic about the resolutions being made. Setting a goal of earning a million dollars or losing 100 pounds may not be achievable in just a year’s time, especially without the motivation or the resources to do so. Resolutions for one year should be something attainable and realistic so they can actually be reached.

Choose Health-Related Resolutions

Plenty of different types of goals exist. Wanting to earn more money or learn something new are great resolutions, but they don’t have to be the only ones. Health-related resolutions should be on the list as well, ensuring people become healthier overall in the new year so they can enjoy the other goals they’ve set. Those in poor health or who are even dealing with stress won’t be able to enjoy achieving other goals, if they achieve them at all. Becoming healthier should also be on the bucket list, in whatever way that is needed.

Eliminating stress is a great objective for anyone experiencing daily stressors that lead to headaches and other health problems. Losing weight might be the goal for someone who suffers from joint pain due to excess weight on their body. Eating healthier might be the right choice for someone who has poor eating habits and frequently feels bloated or ill. Any of these resolutions are ideal starting places for getting healthier in the new year.

Pick Resolutions Based on Your Motivation Style

Not everyone gets motivated by the same thing. While one person might be motivated by rewards, another might prefer power. Some want the achievement, while others are driven by the idea of consequences. Resolutions for the new year should be based on these motivation styles so each person selects a goal that they’ll be motivated to meet.

Resolutions don’t just have to get made on the first of the year. They can be evaluated, changed, and set any time throughout the year as people see fit. With some motivation and the right resolutions in mind, people can find it easier to achieve their goals.
