A Chiropractor's Guide to Moving

By Brandi Swieter

Moving takes a toll on the body if people don’t take precautions when attempting the job. The process is often already stressful enough without adding an injury to the mix. Anyone moving heavy objects, whether a professional or the person whom is relocating, should follow a chiropractor's guide for tackling the task. It will help prevent injury and keep the chore as pain-free as possible.

Use Moving Equipment

Instead of attempting to pick up heavy items alone, a person responsible for moving duties should use the appropriate moving equipment. Placing furniture pieces on a dolly would make them much easier to transfer from the house or apartment to the truck and prevent extra strain on the body. Sliding coasters to place under couches and chairs also come in handy, as do moving straps.

Do Not Fill Big Boxes With Heavy Items

Too many people try to cram the largest boxes with the heaviest stuff. Doing so puts far too much strain on the back and body as a person attempts to pick it up and carry it. Big boxes should never be filled with heavy items. These should be used for lighter items instead that won’t make the box unbearable to transport. Smaller boxes should include the heavier items so it is impossible to make them too heavy. There won’t be much space to overpack and make it impossible to carry.

Find a Moving Partner

At the very least, there should be two people when moving. An individual should never attempt to move an entire home’s worth of belongings themselves. It would be far too much work and could lead to exhaustion and muscle fatigue quickly. Any individual trying to move should find a moving partner before starting to ensure the job can get done quicker and without pain for one person. Having an entire group of people would be even better to divvy up the tasks and prevent any one person from getting overworked.

Anyone responsible for moving heavy items needs to follow some chiropractic tips to ensure a safe and injury-free experience. Those who still experience aches after a hard day of moving should visit The Joint Chiropractic to see about getting relief. Joint restrictions already present in the body before starting the move could have worsened with the work. You want to be safe than sorry, and going to The Joint is part of being safe.
