Avoid Fall Injuries With Chiropractic Advice
By Brandi Swieter
The wet leaves that have fallen from trees is a common reason for injury during the fall season. People are much more likely to slip and get hurt during this time of year than they were in the summer months. With people climbing ladders to clean out gutters and even hanging Halloween or Thanksgiving decorations, there is an increased chance for injuries. With some chiropractic advice, people can avoid these common fall injuries, or at least avoid getting too hurt when they happen.
Wear Non-Slip Shoes
Sandals or shoes that slip easily are not ideal for fall weather. One wrong step on a wet spot on the lawn and a person can find themselves landing on their behind. Non-slip shoes make it easier to handle the outdoor weather during this time. They are not as likely to slip and slide on something wet, which is why they’re the shoe of choice for people who work in restaurants or anywhere else liquids may commonly find their way to the floor. A comfortable pair of shoes that fit well is also key in ensuring no injuries happen.
Hang Decorations With Help
A major culprit for autumn injuries is hanging decorations. Whether a person is putting up something spooky for Halloween or preparing to set up Christmas decorations early, getting up on a ladder and reaching toward the perfect spot can spell disaster. It’s always best to hang decorations with help. Have someone else hold the ladder, for example, so there is less of a chance of it moving out of place and causing a fall.
Exercise More Often
A weak body is more likely to experience injury from a fall, even if it’s just a small slip. A broken hip or leg may be avoided if people exercise more often and keep their skeleton strong. Exercises that target the lower body are best. Stretch before and after as well to improve flexibility and make it even easier to remain upright when a slip occurs.
Get Regular Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care helps to keep the body healthy and strong. Those with joint restrictions may experience falls easily because their joints are not as flexible. They cannot avoid injury as easily as those with no restrictions present. Regular visits to the chiropractor will help to ensure no joint restrictions are in place and the body is as flexible as possible to handle the autumn weather without problems.
Visit The Joint Chiropractic to keep the body as strong as possible and avoid falls. As well, if you end up on the ground, be sure to visit The Joint to ask how they may be able to help. Chiropractic care is a necessary part of maintaining overall health and wellness during the autumn and every season after.
