Deal With Stress ... Productively!
By Sara Butler
Many people have a dream of a stress-free life. Or, at least, a life without as much stress. It would be nice if the house were always clean, you had copious amounts of time to do what you need to, and the kids never fight or whine. In the real world, you know that's not going to happen. The best you can hope for is looking for ways to deal with stress effectively.
Remember, stress isn't a bad thing, but too much uncontrolled stress can impact your mental and physical wellness and health. You can have trouble sleeping, get headaches, and spend the majority of your day worrying -- and that's not someplace you want to find yourself.
Luckily, there are some solid ways you can manage the stress that can work to make your day a little bit more relaxed. Here are a few things you can do today that can have a big impact on your stress levels. Who knows? They may even help to make you more productive, too.
Create a Simpler Schedule
At the beginning of each week, take a look at your calendar. Is there anything you can scale back or remove altogether such as an activity or an appointment that will work to make the week less hectic? You may need to make some tough choices and change the way you do things in order to make your life less demanding, but it'll be worth it to help reduce stress and make your health a priority.
Get Rid of Clutter
Clutter can have an impact on your stress levels, even subconsciously. You don't have to clean every room in your house every day, but taking a few minutes to clear away places where clutter tends to collect in your home can go a long way in helping you to feel less stressed by your surroundings.
Get a Coloring Book
Coloring isn't just for preschoolers! There is evidence that using coloring to decompress can have a big impact on your stress levels by helping to lower your rate of respiration and heart rate. It also stimulates the brain and relaxes muscles. So, whip out the crayons or colored pencils and go to town. You can find a variety of adult coloring books to help make your day just a little less stressful.
You have to deal with stress in order to be healthy, so find small ways to start.
