Does Your Sleep Position Help or Hurt Your Back?

By Tom Herrin

It is not uncommon for people to have problems with their sleep.  There could certainly be a variety of issues with it.  Many experience back pain as an interaction between the day's activities and poor sleeping habits.  While there are a number of issues that may cause problems with getting quality sleep, some people may have difficulty with the position in which they sleep.  If, however, your sleep causes you pain, a visit to a chiropractor may have you sleeping like a baby.

Exercise Good Judgment

Without a doubt, the sleep position that is most likely to cause problems is one in which you sleep on the stomach.  It can put the back in a situation where there is no support.  Sleeping on the back may be a good option, but it is suggested that a pillow be placed under the legs to maintain better position for the spine.  Side sleeping can be good, but it may be recommended that the legs are curled and pulled up into somewhat of a fetal position.  A little experimenting may help to discover what is best for each individual with all of this in mind.

Chiropractors Strive to Improve Quality of Life

For those instances in which people have back pain, it is best to get it taken care of as soon as possible.  A chiropractor can perform an adjustment by gently manipulating an injured joint so that it is restored to its proper position.  This can take the pressure of off any nerve that is causing misery.  Chiropractors can also suggest sleeping positions that may help and exercises that may strengthen muscles that support the spine or other areas that may be vulnerable.  Their treatments are usually done without the use of pain medications, so they are all natural.

Regular Care Can Preserve and Protect

Once people experience the pain relief that may be brought about by a chiropractor, they generally want to continue.  At The Joint Chiropractic, they have plans that make these visits possible.  They are open days and evenings, weekdays and weekends.  No insurance is required, no appointments are necessary at any of their more than 425 locations nationwide.  If you find yourself waking up in pain, stop punishing yourself and drop in at The Joint Chiropractic today and rest better.
