Saying 'Game On' Should Support Better Health
By Tom Herrin
The normal routines of bump and grind exercise may be wonderful for some people. For others, a little more fun and games has much more appeal. A problem is that once people run out of activities they are familiar with, their buckets tends to be empty. There are numerous games and activities that may be played with much more benefit that people realize. Some are those that seem out of the realm of consideration on first thought, but actually are much easier to modify for all ages and abilities than originally thought. One of those activities is field hockey. It can be played anywhere with any kind of facilities. The really good thing is that it can be enjoyed by all.
It May Increase Muscle Strength
For those who have ever tried to run while doing anything else, it can be a challenge. Working a stick to attempt to maneuver a ball or puck at the same time as running or jogging can help to develop muscles and coordination. It takes quite a lot to manage those multiple things at once. Since it is a fun game, the results may come surprisingly fast.
It May Help With Weight Loss
Dieting is the real key to losing weight. After people get on a good diet, something to jump-start the calorie burn can be a real help. Playing field hockey can burn calories at a pretty good rate. When people are having fun, it is much easier to get going and see results fast. The intermittent running, walking, and pausing can help to avoid complacency. The body can kick into a higher burning gear.
It May Develop Speed
When you play a game such as field hockey in which you are performing multiple tasks, you have a better chance of developing your brain and mental functions. You will also be able to improve your speed. This is not so much that you will be running a race or competing to be the fastest member on a fast food restaurant team, but you may very well benefit from increased response time. This may help in avoiding accidents or performing ordinary activities. You may discover for yourself that field hockey is a really fun game. Your family and friends will enjoy playing whether they are 8 or 80. My family has played it on occasion and everyone has a great time.
