A Good Camping Trip May Support Health

By Tom Herrin

Thinking about trying to do something to improve health is a starting point for anyone.  It is a fairly known fact that exercise is something everyone needs.  A good diet is also critical.  Beyond those two things, the field is pretty wide open.  Sometimes a simple change in activity can produce big results, just like cutting that ice cream out of a daily diet.  One of the easiest things to do is to take a little camping trip.  Contrary to what may come to mind, it doesn't require that much special equipment to go, and there are plenty of places that are not that far away.  In your neck of the woods, you have some great choices.  You can go to a beach park to camp or up to the piney woods, among other things.  The fact is it may recharge your health.

It May Mean Better Sleep

So many people have problems with sleep that it is almost epidemic.  There is no doubt that there are multiple causes.  A fact is that spending more time outdoors may help that.  According to a University of Colorado study, when people are outdoors, they may adjust their schedule to that of the sun.  They may begin to rise early and retire so as well.  More sun exposure is thought to help to balance the levels of melatonin.

It May Boost Your Levels of Vitamin D

One of the more unusual vitamins is Vitamin D.  It may be supplied by some foods, but its chief source can be the sun.  When people spend so much of their time indoors, there is a good chance they will be low on this vitamin.  It is believed to help prevent some cancers, high blood pressure, heart disease, and several other health issues.  It is no wonder that many people get that great feeling when they are outdoors.  That shot of Vitamin D may play a role in that.

It May Inspire More Exercise

When I go out camping, there is something about it that makes me want to explore.  Walking around and looking at the sights may be an almost natural instinct.  We have found ourselves engaging in all sorts of activities that we just don't do at home much.  Playing active games seems fitting, and our entire family usually enjoys it.  Find a place to go and see how it works for you.  If nothing else, the Texas state parks have a lot to offer.
