Finding the Things That Make You Happy

By Brandi Goodman

Mental health is declining rapidly for people as a whole. There are so many more people being diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts than ever before. With the world already filled with negativity and stressful situations, it's important that you stay on top of your mental health at home. Find the things that make you happy and help your mental well-being thrive.

Create a Happy Space

One option is to create your own personal happy space somewhere within your home. It should be a place that only you go to when you need that endorphin boost. Fill it with pictures of loved ones, quotes that inspire you, happy memories, and something creative to do. Have a notebook, drawing pad, art set, book, knitting tools, or computer waiting there for you to work on. Going to this space should inspire a better, happier mood.

Find a Support Group

Finding a group of supportive people can be a big help when you're going through a tough time. It doesn't have to be in-person, either. Whether you connect with friends in-person or online, you're still connecting. You're still finding something to bond over. Facebook is actually great for this purpose. There are so many groups available to join where you can find like-minded people regarding any subject.

Be Happy Where You Are NOW

Don't say you'll be happy when you have more money, are thinner, or have a bigger home. Don't wait around for something better. Be happy where you are now, in this moment. Be happy you have a roof over your head. Be glad you have a body that gets you where you need to go. Be happy with what you have now and learn to take things one day at a time. Focus on the positive instead of the negative and it will help put you in a better mindset. It's OK to want better for yourself, but that doesn't have to mean hating what you currently have and never enjoying it.

The world is harsh enough. Do what you can to find your happy and keep your mental health in check. It's too easy to let your mental health decline -- and it will decline quickly if you aren't putting in any effort. Start making a conscious effort to do and feel better so you can enhance your well-being and make it through this tough world.
