5 Foods That Assist Eyesight

By: Brandi Swieter

A person’s eyesight starts to waiver as they age, becoming blurry and worrisome. Those who once struggled to see up close now may also be unable to see far away, and vice versa. To prevent fading vision such as this, people should start consuming certain foods early on in life and continue eating them as they get older. Five main foods assist eyesight and should be consumed regularly.

Eggs

To gain better eye function, Vitamin A and lutein are both needed. Eggs contain both, making them an excellent source of food for those who want to improve their vision. Lutein has often been called the eye vitamin because of the benefits it brings. The tissues within the eyes get protected from light thanks to this vitamin.

Legumes

Some people do not consume as many legumes as they should in their diet. Made up of beans and peas, the legume family provides a nutritious source of zinc. Vision loss can occur when there is not enough zinc within the body helping to create the melanin pigment in the eyes that protect them. Eating baked beans won’t do the trick, either. Unflavored kidney beans, red beans, great northern beans, and black eyed peas are some of the best options.

Fruit

Fruit has long been said to be a necessary food item for people who want to live a healthy life. For the eyes in particular, citrus fruits prove necessary. The Vitamin C within them can help to boost eye health and prevent cataracts from forming. Lemons, grapefruits, and oranges are all excellent sources. Eat some each week.

Sunflower Seeds

Overall eye protection is what people will get when they regularly eat sunflower seeds. These seeds possess doses of Vitamin A, thiamine, and zinc, all of which help to keep the eyes strong and healthy. Some people experience a B1 deficiency, which may cause double vision. Sunflower seeds do their part to prevent this from happening.

Carrots

Carrots should not be forgotten from this list. They have long been one of the most notable sources of nutrition for eye health. People say that eating carrots can improve vision and make you see better. This is true thanks to the Vitamin A found within the orange morsels.
