6 Sunburn Solutions Sans Aloe Vera

Lots of people get sunburned in the summer and choose to slap aloe vera over their skin. Although this home remedy can relieve some of your discomfort, it isn't actually the best choice out there. Six sunburn solutions exist that don't include aloe vera at all. Give these a try and see which one works best for your skin this summer.

Apply and Eat Sweet Potatoes

Eating sweet potatoes can be more helpful than you'd think when it comes to sunburns. The vegetable provides lots of antioxidants and Vitamin C that helps to clear up skin and keep it free from danger. This includes limiting the effects of sunburn. You can also apply sweet potatoes directly to the burn to help take away some of the sting. Peel the potato, boil it, and apply the mashed up remainder to your skin.

Wash With Cool Water

Avoid using soaps and lotions on your skin. It's far too sensitive with a burn to handle any products of this nature. Instead, you should simply wash with cool water. It can help to reduce the heat you're feeling and ease some of the discomfort.

Soak in Oatmeal

Oatmeal also offers some antioxidant properties like sweet potatoes do. You can find an option in drug stores that is intended for your skin. Use a food processor to get the pieces really small and apply it to your bath water. Soaking in oatmeal can help with sunburn and many other skin irritations.

Brew Black Tea

Black tea is said to help with sunburn. Rather than just drink it, you'll need to actually apply the tea to your skin directly. You can even take the teabag and hold it over your eyelids or mouth to soothe sensitive spots. It can help to reduce some of the inflammation.

Drink Plenty of Water

You need to hydrate your body if you've been burned. It will help with the flow of nutrients to your skin and ensure it's being repaired as needed. Sunburned skin is incredibly dry and water is necessary to add moisture and bring back its suppleness. 

Stay Out of the Sun

Never go back in the sun when your skin is already sunburned. Your body needs time to heal and recuperate after it's been damaged. If you must be outside, try to find the shadiest spot. Wear a hat and sunglasses, as well as long-sleeves, so your skin will be protected. Otherwise, just stay inside for a few days and try these other remedies so your skin can recover.

Your skin should be slathered in sunscreen lotion daily so you can prevent a sunburn to begin with.
