4 Health Hacks for Work

By Brandi Goodman

Staying healthy is key no matter where you're at. Being in close proximity with other people all day at work can lead to more frequent illness, making it even more imperative that you do what you can to keep your health intact while on the job. Consider a few health hacks for work to make that possible.

Nap on Your Lunch Break

Sometimes, you just need a quick power nap to make it through your day. If you're feeling particularly tired and finding it difficult to get through your tasks, try heading to your car, setting an alarm for 20 minutes, and taking a power nap. It can help to rejuvenate you just enough to make it through the remainder of your shift.

Set Hydration Benchmarks

You need adequate hydration if you have any hope of keeping your body running well. If you find it difficult to drink enough water at work, start to set hydration benchmarks throughout your day. Say you want to reach a full 64 ounces while you're at work for an eight-hour shift. Drink a bottle of water before you start or as you're heading in. Then, set a timer on your phone to go off every two hours and remind you to down another 16 ounces each time You'll be done by the time your shift ends.

Tell Yourself Positive Affirmations

Work is a major stressor for some people. Make sure to tell yourself positive affirmations throughout the day. Tell yourself you're smart, capable, and can handle anything. Remind yourself that you've got this and you can get it done. Staying positive can help keep your mind on the right track and help you forgo the negative self-talk that often leads to worse stress and anxiety.

Set a Stretch Reminder

You need to get up and stretch often -- especially if you have a job that keeps you sitting down. Set a stretch reminder so you know when it's time to get up and stretch your legs for a few seconds. It can be a big help to ensure your joints don't become stiff and sore. Walk to the water cooler and get a drink. Make a quick bathroom stop. Go and ask a co-worker or your boss a question. There's always a good reason to get up.

Always do what you can to keep your workday healthy and ideal. You have a higher chance of getting sick when you're in close proximity to others. Staying healthy and well is the goal.
