Holiday Weight Gain: Here's How to Avoid It
By Virginia Laird
With the holidays just around the corner, now is the time to begin considering how to avoid holiday weight gain. For many, gaining weight over the holidays is a harsh reality which no one is ready for. Many experts admit that such problems arise as you indulge in the variety of sugar loaded treats which accompany any holiday buffet. To help put a halt on your holiday weight gain experts have suggested a few tips, including:
- Choose only one tablespoon of each dish
- Skip out on the dessert
- Avoid wearing your loose clothing
Choose Only One Tablespoon of Each Dish
While it can be tempting to pile your plate to the ceiling of every dish on the table, this is not the best choice to make. Many health and wellness experts suggest that you should only choose one tablespoon of each dish to help you avoid over-consumption of any particular food. Allowing yourself one simple tablespoon of each item on the table can allow you to taste everything without overdoing it on any one item. As you take your plate to the buffet, keep this rule in mind to help you stay focused on your health goals rather than focusing on the food.
Skip Out on the Dessert
Although you may find yourself surrounded by a host of desserts, health and wellness experts suggest this may be the part of the meal you need to skip out on. Choosing to avoid desert can help prevent you from eating too much sugar and fat. If your desserts are anything like mine, eating a dessert is much like eating a bag of potato chips. Once you get started, it is quite difficult to put an end to it. Make sure you go into your holiday meal prepared to make the healthiest decision possible. If you are one who suffers with a sweet tooth, try finding an alternative to the desert buffet.
Avoid Wearing Your Loose Clothing
Like millions across the nation, you may be tempted to wear your most loose pair of jeans to your holiday gathering. Health and wellness experts advise this to be detrimental to your diet. Research suggests that wearing clothing that is too loose can allow you to feel comfortable as you load your belly full of every delicious food in sight. Rather, it is suggested that you wear your regular fitting clothing so that as you eat, you may feel the desire to stop before you are packed so tight you're too big for your britches. You know what I mean.
Now you are ready to head to your holiday gatherings without the fear of packing on too much weight.
