Healthy Habits that Keep You Young
By Sara Butler
The older you get, the more time seems to fly. One year you're 25, the next you're 45 -- and it seems as if it all happened in the blink of an eye. You may not want to go back to being 21, but you probably wish your body could. Well, time marches on, but to make sure it doesn't march across your face, here are a few healthy habits that help to keep you young.
Eat Right
A healthy body, a healthy mind, and healthy skin all start in one place: your kitchen. The things you eat nourish every single cell in your body. If you want the best results for yourself, then you must eat high-quality, nutrient-dense foods as much as you can.
Fruits and vegetables are a great way to get nutrients your body needs to look and feel its very best. Vitamin C, zinc, selenium, and Vitamin C are found in fresh fruits and vegetables, while Vitamin E is found in seeds and nuts. These are all antioxidants that help your cells regenerate and supports healthy collagen and elastin production to keep your skin firm. Essential fatty acids help your skin to function and repair, too.
The bottom line is this: If a food is whole, then it does a whole lot of good for your body.
Apply Sunscreen
Too much exposure to the sun can damage your skin and cause uneven tone, dryness, sun spots, and the dreaded wrinkles of old age. You've likely seen someone who you can tell has just done a little too much tanning in their day and their skin probably looked like leather. Don't follow in those footsteps.
Instead, apply at least an SPF 15 sunscreen when you're going to be outside, even in the wintertime. Don't forget to put it everywhere: your neck, your ears, and your hands. Sunscreen also helps to moisturize your skin, so it's not a bad thing to add to your daily routine.
Drink More Water
Speaking of moisture, make sure you're getting enough of it in the form of water. Drinking a lot of water each day is one of the easiest ways to feel and look your best. It helps your body to remove waste products and keeps your skin supple and moist. So make sure to drink your daily quota!
