If You Have Given Up Bread for Health, Think Again

By Tom Herrin

In recent times, many people have sought to scrutinize their diets closely in search of what it may take to make it the best it can be.  It is always valid to look closely at what we eat in order to keep it as healthy as possible.  Bread is a primary food that has taken a beating in many places.  Processed flour did a number on many individuals as they relied on it as being a quick and easy solution.  The downside was that it seemed to contribute to several health problems.  An increase in the incidence of colon cancer was a big one.  This is not always to case today as we have plenty of good types of bread on the market that can be a great support to good health.

Oat Bread Is Better Than It May Sound

Many of us cringe at the thought of anything made from oats.  It is not that it necessarily tastes bad as much as many perceive it as having little flavor.  This is a mistaken concept.  Oat bread can be very tasty while it is really healthy.  Oats have a legitimate reputation for the ability to help lower cholesterol.  They have some of the best forms of fiber.  This bread may help us to feel fuller longer.  It is also higher in protein than bread made from wheat.

Whole Grain Bread

I always try to read labels to be sure any bread I purchase has some good whole grain.  Whole grain bread, as opposed to simply whole wheat bread, may contain other good grains.  It often has more vitamins and nutrients.  For those who are concerned about sugar, this is at the top of the list as it often has no sugar.  It is also low is calories, so it does not provide a major hit on a good diet.  You are sure to find it a good addition to your diet.

No Flavor May Mean Stay Away

Many times, when we are searching for something that can be a healthy addition to a diet, we think it is OK for it to have little or no flavor.  This should never be the case.  If we are going to make something a part of our diet, let us have some great flavor.  You may have to try a few different kinds of breads in order to find the one that is the best fit for you, but it is worth the effort.  Buy bread that has great flavor and is healthy, too.  There are plenty of options out there.
