Why Dancing is a Great Way to Stay Fit
By Genevieve Cunningham
A love of dancing is practically born with us. Most babies, at one point or another, bust a move to their favorite song. And they do so without any specific instruction or prompting. It’s just … in us. As we grow older and more self-conscious, many of us drop the dancing altogether. It’s not that we love it any less, but rather that we feel embarrassed by our moves. But maybe it’s time to dust off your dancing shoes and get back out there. Why? To get fit and healthy! If you love good music, a little dancing, and the idea of getting fit, take a look at why dancing is a great way to get your body in the best shape.
It Improves Flexibility
Have you ever seen a dancer that is inflexible? Not likely! Dancing requires you to stretch your muscles and elongate your body. It requires wide, sweeping moves and deep bends. If you pick up dancing, even as a hobby, you will undoubtedly gain some flexibility. This can serve you well in getting fit, and may even make everyday life just a little bit easier.
It Burns Big Calories
When you really get down to some fast music, you will burn massive amounts of calories! You’ll sweat and demand energy for the muscles and burn, burn, burn. And since losing weight and getting fit is all about burning more calories than you take in, this is an excellent way to start your fitness journey.
It Builds Strength
Dancers are strong. Even those ballerinas who look so tiny and delicate are super strong! Dancing helps build real strength within the body. The muscles will be stronger and more dense. They’ll be able to lift more and hold you up longer. You’ll gain definition, sculpt away fat, and likely find yourself stronger than you’ve ever been in the past.
It is a Ton of Fun
Let’s not forget that dancing is just a ton of fun! If you can let go of your inhibitions, you can relax and get into it, and this makes for a really good time. If you want a fitness routine that is fun, dancing is a no-brainer. Join a class, make space in your bedroom, or dance whenever the mood strikes. You’ll definitely be moving toward better health and a better body, and you’ll be having a blast at the same time.
Dancing is an incredible workout. If you like to dance, or even if you think you might like it, go ahead and give it a try. You may find a new hobby, a fun passion, and an excellent way to get in the best health and shape of your life.
