Holiday Fitness Opportunities
By Brandi Goodman
The holidays are often packed with so many tasks on your to-do list. All the shopping, wrapping, decorating, and party-attending you have planned can leave little time for exercise. However, you need to move your body even more than usual throughout this season so you can burn those calories and keep your body in good shape with all the stress you have going on. Find holiday fitness opportunities where you can.
Shopping Fitness Trip
Since shopping is already part of your plan, use it to your advantage. Head to the mall to make the most of the option. Take the stairs rather than using the elevator. Make frequent trips back to your car to store your bags instead of keeping them all on your arms. This adds more walking to your day, plus helps prevent some pain from having so much weight added to your shoulders.
Outdoor swimming spots aren't going to be available, but you still have the option of swimming indoors. Plenty of indoor facilities exist to let you get your swim on. Swimming is incredibly beneficial for the body and mind. It's a relaxing option when you want to get away from it all. It also helps those who experience weak muscles or joint pain because you aren't working out on a hard surface. The buoyancy of the water helps alleviate discomfort.
Go for a Hike
Hiking is a great option as well. Just be sure not to go alone. Hiking can be dangerous if you're by yourself. It's easy to get lost or hurt while in the wilderness. Make it a family affair and have everyone go on a hike together for some fresh air and exercise.
Walk to the See the Holiday Lights
Once your neighborhood starts getting holiday lights up, be sure to spend a night or more simply walking around to view the beauty of it all. The extra steps you get in during this excursion is great for your physical health. The fun and excitement of all the lights is wonderful for your mental health, making it the ideal option.
Try a Fitness Class
You can opt for a fitness class if that's more your style. You'll get to work out indoors in a group setting with others. Find one that fits your schedule and sounds like fun to you. There are so many great options, from Zumba to water aerobics. You can box, cycle, or try any other experience the facility currently offers.
Don't let fitness fall to the wayside this holiday season. Make sure you're finding ways to stay fit and get the exercise your mind and body both need to thrive. You have so many choices. Stop making excuses and get up and get moving now.
