Being Terrorized Is Not The Only Exercise In Fall
By Tom Herrin
People in this area may have plenty to talk about when this fall season rolls around. Local stories about hauntings undoubtedly get more attention as Halloween nears, and ties to early American settlers can make the harvest time a little more special. Either way, with the changing of the seasons, fall comes in as a welcome visitor in most places. The cooler days and pleasant nights may serve as an invitation to get out and be more active. No longer does the risk of suffering from heat have to be such a concern when people exercise.
Knock Out A Workout While Doing Chores
It is pretty much a given that most people are going to have to rake leaves. If they live in a house, they surely see the growing collection of them on the ground every time they walk out the door. Raking leaves can burn as many as 400 calories in a hour. Since it will have to be done every day or so for several weeks if they have many trees, it could actually serve as a regular workout. People tend to lose track of the time as they try to make progress, so it may not even feel like exercise.
Stay in Step With A Corn Maze
It is funny how things seem to run in streaks. There are all kinds of fads that come and go, but corn mazes appear to be really popular in the last few years. For a plain fun activity, they provide a mental and physical workout. It requires thinking as well as walking, jogging, or running as they attempt to find their way out of the maze. It can be a great group activity. A lot of people seek to try as many as possible during the season.
Expand Your Menu to Add More Healthy Foods
Since it is the harvest time, you may enjoy going to a fair or farmers market. You can get ideas there about foods and dishes you have likely never heard of. Pick out something new and take it home. Get a friend or family member to help as you attempt to prepare a new recipe. It is a good opportunity to broaden your tastes and touch on the willingness of your family to eat a greater variety of foods. Put that together with the added exercise and you can create a healthier lifestyle.
