Have the Last Dance with Better Health

By Tom Herrin

A lot of people look for the easy way out.  As a matter of fact, most do when given the chance.  It is more a matter of being efficient than lazy. Why would anyone want to go to extra effort when they are trying to get something done?  The same doesn’t always go with exercise. Most think of a lot of work when they endeavor to get into shape. It is an obvious connection. All exercise is not the same, and the end needs to be in sight when developing the means.  For those who are not so inclined toward a heavy workout routine, something that seems a little more motivating may be a better choice. Dancing is a great way to get in shape. I always think of dancers as being very fit. For those who may be looking for a little more casual kind, square dancing is a pretty good activity that can be good exercise for the entire family.

It Is Good at Any Age

Square dancing contains some good, steady movement.  When people participate, they may burn as many calories as in any other casual exercise such as walking, or maybe riding a bicycle.  People usually dance for quite a bit of time each session, so they are having fun while not realizing they are exercising.

It Is a Good Way to Meet Others

Many people do not get out and socialize as they once did.  Square dancing is a very social activity. It is essential that they are involved with others in order to dance because of the constant exchange of partners, corners, etc.  Age does not matter much. Children and older people can participate successfully. It is considered to be a good, wholesome activity that can involve the whole family.

It May Be Good for the Mind

Square dancing may do wonders for the mind.  First of all, with all of the calls and the movement, you will have to process what kinds of instructions are being given and carry them out.  This can help to serve as a sort of mental exercise. Such is believed to help to keep the brain active and avoid dementia. On the other hand, square dancing after a busy day can be a good way to declutter the mind and relax.  Relieving stress is one of the best things any of us can do for our health. If you decide to try square dancing, you may find that it is a fun activity that provides just the right kind of moderate exercise.
