A Healthy Choice in Apparel May Be Snug
By Tom Herrin
Competition is the name of the game in America. It is the basis for which most business decisions are made. Anytime a holiday is approaching, the first sign is likely the appearance of something related to it in the nearest large discount store. People and their decisions are highly influenced by these retail centers. There are times when it is only hype, then there are times when there is real research to back up whatever the current hot item is. In recent years, that big item, in the way of exercise apparel, would appear to be compression clothing. Since its appearance, it seems to have grown in popularity and diversity of use.
Socks May Be the Ancestor of It All
For many years, people have been given compression socks, or stockings, to wear when they have had surgery or some other similar issue. When people are somewhat inactive for a period of time, such as in recovery, they may not get sufficient exercise to encourage good blood flow. As a result, blood may pool in areas that are a greater distance the heart. This can be dangerous and allow blood clots to form. Compression socks can help to maintain pressure on the blood vessels, enabling the blood to flow back to the heart more easily.
The Shirts May Still Be an Unknown
While the socks are great, compression shirts are a little more uncertain as to their effectiveness. Some people enjoy their comfort during a workout since they are lightweight and yet have the feel of support. Some also feel that wearing them after a workout can help to reduce swelling. A perk is that they may enhance appearance for those who are beginning to see success in their program. The superhero look is popular.
The Shorts Are Definitely In
Almost everywhere I look, I see people wearing compression shorts or pants at all kinds of events and activities. They are comfortable and allow good airflow. Many people seem to choose them for riding bicycles, jogging, or participating in general exercise programs. I enjoy wearing them on occasion, though I normally wear them under other clothing. They feel good as if to provide some support for minor injuries. Try them for yourself if you haven’t already. All you need to decide is just how snug you want them to be.
