Getting Back to Normal

By Donna Stark

At first, staying home all the time may have been a welcomed reprieve for many. It may have provided those that needed a break the most, the break they've actually been refusing to give themselves. It allowed many to catch up on the books they wanted to read, the cleaning they needed to get to, or the home improvements they pushed aside. And it definitely provided the time that most of us complain about not having. But now, all of those things have been accomplished and we don't know what to do with ourselves. If you are missing some of the "normal" in your life and are looking for ways to keep everyone entertained, take a look at the following suggestions.

Head to Your Backyard

Make the most of your backyard and feed those cravings for adventure by turning your yard into an actual campsite. Pitch a tent, grab your sleeping bags, and pull out your portable fire pit. Your family will love sharing spooky ghost stories while making s'mores next to the fire. Toss in a board game or two and grab some flashlights for an adventure they won't soon forget!

Get Your Grill On

Family picnics in the backyard are always fun but they can be even more so when you get your grill going! Nothing can put a smile on everyone's face like burgers, hot dogs, and all the sides do. And when you couple that with a volleyball net or an exciting game of kickball? Well, you seriously just won the Parents of the Week award!

Plan a Movie Night

Everyone loves a good movie, especially when there is a big tub of popcorn in your lap, right? So, why don't you create your very own, in-home movie theater? Rent a movie that has been on everyone's radar, buy your kids their favorite treats, and pull out all the blankets and pillows! This may take some advance planning, but it will be well worth your time and effort!

Enjoy a Brunch

Just because you can't enjoy brunch at your favorite restaurant, that doesn't mean you can't duplicate it at home! Brunch is a great way to relax with your loved ones. Coffee, waffles, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, and juice ... seriously, who could ask for more? Top it off with some pastries on the side and some pictures on your social media feed to be the envy of all!

Making the Best of It

This staycation may have not been planned but there is no reason not to make the best of it! Remember, just keep the focus on your loved ones and use the time you have now to your advantage. Sooner than later, your normal will get back to normal.
