Headaches? Chiropractic May Help
By Paul Rothbart
One of the most common maladies is headaches. They can be mild or intense but they are always at the least unpleasant and can be a major distraction to accomplish daily tasks. There are many causes of headaches and several ways to treat them. Some forms of relief are temporary and don't get to the root of the problem. A form of treatment that may be very helpful is seeing a chiropractor.
Causes of Headaches
Some headaches are related to another medical condition. The more common headaches may be caused by a lack of water or improper nutrition. Stress and anxiety often cause headache pain. A frequent cause of chronic headaches is poor posture. This can compress vertebrae and cause subluxation. As the spinal cord is located within the vertebrae, these problems can put pressure on it. This can cause pain virtually anywhere in the body and often brings on headaches.
Temporary Relief
Typically, when experiencing a headache, people reach for pain medication. Aspirin, ibuprofen, and acetaminophen are staples in most medicine cabinets. They can be effective and certainly have their place in treatments. However, the relief is temporary and does not get to the source of the problem. Taken excessively, these medications can cause problems in the liver and other areas and can be psychologically addictive. They should be taken sparingly and with precaution. For chronic headaches, more permanent treatments should be sought.
See a Chiropractor
Chiropractor care may be one of the most effective ways to treat the source of headaches, relieving the pain and reducing the chance that they recur. A chiropractor can perform an examination and find any compressed discs or subluxations that may be at the root of the problem. They can then make adjustments that fix the problem and relieve pain. With regular visits, your headaches may become far less frequent. Many patients find stress easier to manage when receiving regular care. This can help minimize another common cause of headaches. Other chiropractic clients find that they sleep better. Good sleep is a cornerstone of health and can help reduce the incidence of headaches.
For some people, headaches are an almost constant companion. They can be very painful and are usually distracting. By getting to the source of the problem, you can relieve the pain and reduce the frequency of headaches. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. You don't need an appointment. You may find that regular chiropractic care helps you say farewell to chronic headaches.
