Stuck at Home? Use it to Your Advantage
By Donna Stark
It doesn't matter if the weather outside is bad or if your car is in the shop, being stuck at home unexpectedly can certainly have its challenges. But that doesn't mean you should let the day waste away. Use this time wisely. In fact, this is the perfect time to do something that you may not otherwise have the time to do. What would that be? Well, you could practice some self-care! Take a look at some of the things you can do that will help you get through the day as healthy and productive as you can!
Exercise
If the weather is nice, lace up your shoes and head outdoors for a walk or run. The fresh air and sunshine will do wonders for your physical and mental health. But if you can't be outdoors, don't let that stop you from engaging in some sort of physical activity. Pull out your laptop and search for some online workout videos you can follow or clean your home. It may not be fun, but it will add some movement to your day and benefit your body.
Connect
How long has it been since you last called a distant friend or relative? If you can't remember, that's your sign to use this day to connect with your loved ones. Whether you call the old-fashioned way or set up a video call, you'll be sure to make their day! Your call may even encourage them to call their loved ones, and there is no better domino effect than that!
Cook
Does your busy schedule keep you out of the kitchen? If so, take advantage of the day and get cooking! Pull out that recipe you have been saving for a special occasion or prep some food for the rest of your week. Whatever you choose to do, just make sure you are focusing on nutrient-rich meals.
Learn
Are you a student at heart? Would you be interested in learning something new? Well, you've got all the time in the world today, so use it to your benefit! Check out some of the free online courses available to the public, pull out an instructional book on a topic you are interested in, or ask a friend to come over and teach you a skill they are good at. There are plenty of things you can learn. You just need to take the first step toward doing so.
Benefitting From a Day at Home
Take advantage of your situation and use the extra time for your benefit! Try something new, engage in a hobby, or just let your body relax. Whatever you choose, make sure it is healthy and productive.
