4 Delicious Foods to Add to Your Salad

By Genevieve Cunningham

In the world of healthy eating, salads still reign king. When people first make the switch to a healthier diet, this is often what they lean on. Salads are usually low calorie, easy to make, and definitely healthy. But they can also get boring. The same old lettuce and tomato, the same old dressing (or lack thereof), the same old toppings. Perhaps if we could change it up from time to time, it would be easier to stick with healthy eating. If you’re looking for interesting ways to change up your salad, take a look at these four delicious foods to try today.

Carrots

Carrots are an excellent food to add to salads. They can be eaten whole, chopped into smaller bites, or even grated into tiny pieces. They give your salad an extra crunch, which can change the entire feel of the meal. And of course, they offer multiple vitamins and essential nutrients to your food and your body. Give these a try if you like fresh and crunchy foods.

Eggs

Eggs give your salad a blast of protein and healthy fats. Boil an egg, chop it up, and sprinkle it on top. Or slice your boiled egg and add the slices to the side. Why an egg? Besides that nutrient gain, eggs give your salad a new flavor, a soft texture, and make it feel more substantial. If you like meats, adding eggs can make the salad feel more like a meal and less like a rabbit’s snack.

Nuts

Nuts make an excellent addition to salad. They give your salad an additional crunch, and they add flavor. Almond slivers, pistachios, and small bits of walnut seem to be the most popular. Besides the change in texture, nuts can give your salad some healthy omega-3 fatty acids, a little extra protein, and healthy fats to make your dish healthier than ever.

Pineapple

If you have a sweet tooth, pineapple can be delicious in a salad, Chop it up, sprinkle on top, and enjoy. It’s easy, and it gives your salad a blast of Vitamin C. If you enjoy juicy, sweet, and varying flavors in your salad, pineapple is one of the best choices that you can make.

Your salad doesn’t have to be boring. It’s possible to change  it up and keep it interesting. Just add these toppings from time to time. They allow you to keep it healthy while also keeping it interesting. Give them a try, and you may find something worth keeping in your diet from here on out.
