Choosing the Right Vacation
By Donna Stark
Are you feeling a little too stressed out while at work? Have you been burning your candles at both ends? If your performance and mental health are on the decline, it may be time to shift your focus from what is happening during the week and consider taking a vacation. Oftentimes, a weekend away is all that is needed to increase your productivity and creativity for when you get back, but let's be honest, not all vacations are equal, are they?
Choosing the Right Vacation
If you are looking for ways to rest and recharge, choosing a vacation that is filled with stress and high anxiety certainly won't do you any favors. From transportation issues to safety issues to family issues, there are plenty of influences that can easily negate any of the benefits you were hoping to achieve during your time away. In other words, it is important to plan the right kind of trip and to plan it well. Here are some ideas on how to achieve a therapeutic vacation.
- Choose silence - Taking a vacation from work is always a great idea, but if you are constantly checking your emails or texts while away, you really aren't taking a break, are you? Sure, you can bring your phone, but it is important to make sure you are reaping as many benefits as you can by cutting off all the noise from your daily routine. Incorporate plenty of moments where you can truly sit back and enjoy the silence.
- Choose good health - Getting away to a place that focuses on health and wellness is an excellent choice to make if you are looking to come back to work as a "new person." Look for resorts or ranches that offer cooking lessons, yoga, meditation, and other health-promoting activities.
- Choose nature - Changing the environment that you are in is another way to release the build-up from work and there is no better environment than what Mother Nature dishes out daily. Whether you choose something extreme, like a trip to the remote parts of Alaska, or stick closer to a neighboring campsite, a change of scenery out in nature will do wonders for you!
Choosing Yourself
It's time to head out and do what is best for your overall health and wellness. Disconnecting yourself and getting away from the world will put you in the perfect position to refresh and recharge, so don't delay! Take that vacation and see what a difference the right one can make.
