Staying on Top of Your Responsibilities
By Donna Stark
Have you ever had those moments when the laundry needs to be folded and the dishes need to be washed but you just don't want to get up to do them? Sure, it feels good to continue sitting there for some relaxation, but there's a fine line between taking a break to give your body rest and choosing to actively ignore all your responsibilities, isn't there? If you are teetering on that line and aren't feeling very motivated to complete your tasks, keep reading! You certainly don't want to head into the holidays feeling overwhelmed.
Don't Become Buried With Life
It's always good to take a step back and give yourself a break, but you need to make sure the break is exactly that, and not a new direction in your lifestyle. Here are some tips on how to find your motivation and get your focus back on track.
- Find the reason - Do you know why your moods or energy have changed? Are you getting the right amount of sleep, have your stress levels increased, do you feel sick? If there is an underlying issue that is causing you to feel the way you do, it has to be addressed, so take the time to figure that out. A simple fix could make all the difference in the world.
- Start small - It never feels good to be overwhelmed. Sometimes, the best way to start pulling yourself out from under the rubble is to start with the smaller tasks. Make your bed in the morning, sort the mail, answer a few emails ... once you get started, you may end up creating a snowball effect, and there's no better way to jumpstart your day!
- Stay a step ahead - If your day starts off great and then suddenly turns a different direction, stop that shift as much as you can! Keep your motivation, productivity, and energy running by being proactive. Whether that's a run to the coffee shop, a phone call to your best friend, or a quick walk around the block, be sure to engage in actions that will help. Do whatever is necessary to keep your body and mind focused!
A Fair Balance
It's all about balance and finding what works best for you. So, go ahead and rest when your body needs it, but then get right back up and head to work! Don't allow yourself to become overwhelmed. The next couple of months are going to be busy!
