Chiropractic Health Month Encourages Movement

By Brandi Goodman

October is Chiropractic Health Month. Get a head start on what the month teaches by moving more and sitting less. Each year, a new sentiment becomes the focus for the occasion. "Keep Moving" is the theme of 2021, with encouragement to get up and move as much as you can. A lack of physical activity can lead to pain and problems. You need exercise in your life to remain healthy and keep your joints feeling great.

Exercise While You Watch TV

TV-watching is the most common during the fall months. Lots of shows start new seasons in September or October, encouraging you to watch your favorite characters come back to life on the small screen. The problem is, too many people are spending night after night watching numerous shows and not moving much in the process. You should combat the problems this can cause by exercising while you watch. Do some tricep dips using the couch. Get on the ground and do some push-ups. Try yoga. You could even pull out the elliptical or exercise bike and use the equipment as you enjoy your favorite program.

Stretch Before Any Activity

When you do plan on doing any activities, it's important that you stretch your body out well beforehand. Movement is great, but if you're not stretched and ready for it, you could still experience some discomfort. You also won't be able to go for long. Stretch your lower body and back, in particular, before you head to the pumpkin patch or plan on walking through a corn maze. You should stretch your arms efficiently before you tackle raking and yard work.

Take More Walks

Walking is a great way to get movement into your day. This doesn't mean walking from one room of your home to the next. Instead, get outside and walk around the block. The exercise will boost your lower body strength and get your blood and oxygen flowing so you can improve your health. Autumn is an ideal season for regular walks because of the beauty of the changing leaves and the crisp air.

No matter how you find more ways to move, the point is to simply get it done. You could dance in your living room, try some fitness videos, or simply get outside and play a game of catch with your kids. Do what you can to add more movement into your day and avoid pain from inactivity. You can also stop in at The Joint Chiropractic if you're in need of an adjustment before you start, and work with them on the best schedule to follow for your well-being.
