By Sandy Schroeder
If you have ever found yourself in the emergency room with potentially serious symptoms, you know how this can happen. Or you may have concerns about someone in your family. When a new pain or other strange symptom appears, a trip to ER often becomes necessary. Responding to new symptoms can be scary and dangerous if ignored.
Doc Hollywood author Dr. Neil Shulman and his colleagues, Dr. Jack Birge and Dr. Joon Ahn, wrote another book called Your Body’s Red Light Warning Signals: Medical Tips That May Save Your Life. They gathered material from 150 doctors and nurses about symptoms that can be life-threatening. The information is also available at Shulman’s website .
Serious Symptoms to Check Out
Here are some of those potentially deadly symptoms that you should never ignore from newsmax.com. Contact your physician and seek medical care promptly.
Stroke warnings - Sudden speech problems, tingling, or numbness can be signs of a stroke. Weakness or numbness on one side of the body with paralysis of arms and legs can be a stroke that requires immediate medical response.
Signs of blood in urine - Blood with or without pain can signal serious health issues such as prostate infection, cancer or kidney stones. Have it checked out immediately.
Deep vein thrombosis - Sudden leg pain or soreness in the back of the lower leg that shows up with swelling may be a symptom of a blood clot that could be life threatening if it travels to the lungs. Have the symptoms checked immediately.
Streaked hair - New stripes of gray, blond or red tones in the hair may signal deficiencies of dietary protein and iron, which can be ulcerative colitis, inflammation of the digestive tract, or irritable bowel syndrome.
Gums that bleed - Doctors say bleeding gums may be a sign of leukemia. Additional symptoms may be fever, night sweats, excessive tiredness and nosebleeds.
Vision floaters or spots - Tiny specks, spots or a flashing light in vision can be caused by a retinal tear or detachment from the eye that can cause blindness. It should be treated as an emergency that should be treated immediately in ER with an ophthalmologist.
These are a few of the many serious symptoms that may require immediate medical attention. Whenever you have questions about any symptom, contact your doctor immediately, and go to ER for diagnosis and treatment.
