Take a Vacation for a Healthy Lifestyle
By Tom Herrin
As people look for ways to move toward a better and healthier experience, they may have plenty of things to consider. A “whole package” kind of program should not be limited to just rest, diet, and exercise. There is much more that could be included. Those who forego vacations in the hope of getting ahead in their jobs or some other thing may be shorting themselves. Taking advantage of vacations may be one of the most effective ways to improve health, and they don’t have to be all that expensive. There are many ways to make do with the resources they have without breaking the bank.
They May Improve Sleep
Having problems with sleep seems to be an increasingly common problem for many people today. Without a doubt, there are lots of different reasons for it. For one thing, many people work some kind of shift, so families are often dysfunctional as to their sleep routines. The days when the lights went out at a certain time and everyone went to bed are long gone in many cases. Studies have shown that people who took vacations were able to improve their sleep for a lasting period of time even after they had returned from their vacations. This can mean better productivity at work and better reaction time.
They May Improve Creativity
The brain is like many other parts of the body, it needs to stay in good shape in order to function at its best. It appears that traveling and experiencing new things is a good way to challenge the mind. It can keep it working and developing. Much like exercising the body, exercising the brain can keep it sharp and working at its best. This change of perspective may be almost like a vaccine for dullness.
They Can Reduce Stress
Saying that vacations may reduce stress may seem like saying that water may quench thirst. It is a given. Some people can make the worst out of anything. They can make a mess of a vacation, but for those who plan and carry them out, there can be good stress relief. Our family has found that planning a vacation together can be a great part of the experience. It can be relaxing and fulfilling. We always enjoy planning together, then making the necessary adjustments as we go. For sure, a vacation can go a long way to reduce stress for anyone and everyone.
