Learn Another Language and Boost the Mind

By Tom Herrin

At the present time, it seems that many people may have time on their hands and may be socializing less.  This trend could very well continue.  Many of the more traditional activities may have been changed as life itself has been altered for many.  For the sake of better health, it is always a good idea to push ahead with something that can help to improve overall health in one way or another.  One that may be good for the brain as well as help to provide greater opportunities for employment, education, and communication, is to learn a new language.  It has been a proven means of boosting potential abilities.

It Could Improve Math Ability

For many people, this may be two things they don't want to hear.  The thought of math or learning a language may be more than they can bear.  The fact is that the brain is just like anything else people have, the more work it gets, the better it performs.  It is true that it requires some mental work to learn a language, but it is rewarding.  For those who would rather put forth no effort, they won't find it enjoyable.  For those who truly have a desire to improve, learning a  new language will be a challenge but rewarding as well.  According to a study from the University of Massachusetts, children who study a new language do better in math.

It May Improve Self-Confidence

Some people are brimming with confidence while others struggle with it.  Any time people seek to improve themselves, they must develop a level of confidence to help them accomplish their purpose.  When anyone is able to overcome something such as a language barrier, they will likely feel the difference.  Making that barrier disappear requires some degree of confidence.  Once they can see progress, they may continue to do so in a sort of domino effect.

Even If You Stop a Little Short, So What?

Learning a new language can take some time and effort.  If we are to truly master it, we will need to practice and use it.  Simply the ability to learn a little of a new language and understand how it is structured can open many doors for us.  If we broaden the use of our minds, we may also be better able to do things physically.  We may become believers in ourselves and our abilities.  I have struggled to try to learn another language, but when I can see that I have made progress, it is a great feeling.
