What Temperature Works Best for You?

By Tom Herrin

Everyone has different preferences in the kind of temperature that works best for them.  At one time, many were referred to as being either hot-natured or cold-natured.  This was obviously relating to the way they deal with various temperatures.  Some feel cold anytime the temp drops below 75 or 80 degrees, while others feel too warm at 70 or more.  Even though this is a personal thing, temperature really may have an effect on some of the things people do.  The right temperature may improve the quality of life for many.  Some have said the ideal range may be 60 to 80, but it may be possible to be more specific for some things.

Sleeping May Be Better at Certain Temps

Lots of people have problems sleeping.  This can be for a variety of reasons, but trying to do so in the right temperature may help.  It has been suggested that the range of 64-72 is the best place to keep the thermostat in order to facilitate better sleep.  This may be the case.  It seems that REM may be affected negatively when it is too warm.  Many also claim to sleep better with a weighted blanket.  Whatever the case, keeping the home a bit cooler at night may be a good resolution to sleep issues for some.

Managing Weight May Be Easier in the Right Temps

Trying to lose weight is an ongoing challenge for many people.  If there is something they can do to help it, why not try?  Some studies have indicated that people may be able to burn more calories under certain circumstances.  When it is cold enough for them to shiver, it is thought that they may boost their metabolism considerably and burn more calories.  The body may also tend to retain more fluid in extremely hot or cold temperatures.  The prime range for this is thought to be from 64 to 67 degrees.  That is pretty specific, so there must be something to it.

Cooler Is Great for Me

I have had a lot of trouble sleeping and have tried turning down the thermostat each night before I go to bed.  It seems to help because I am much more comfortable.  I also have only tried to lose weight when it is cooler, such as spring or fall.  I don't know if it is in my mind or not, but it seems that I have had better results.
