2 Important Traits for Improving Your Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

What's not as hard as we often make it, but also incredibly hard -- what could possibly meet this contradiction? Health. Sometimes, it's really hard to change our health and get it moving in the right direction. And other times, we make it so incredibly complicated when it should really be a lot easier. So what gives? How can we ever make improvements when this swing between extremes exists? Luckily, the details of improving your health can vary widely and be incredibly specific to your body and life. But there are a few traits that need to be consistent in everyone if real change is going to happen. What are they? If you're ready to get serious about health, take a look these two important components that you need starting now.

Patience

Improving your health is a long and sometimes pained endeavor. It's not something that happens overnight, not by a long shot. If you want real change to happen, you have to learn a little bit -- or rather a lot -- of patience. You have to learn that weight loss happens incredibly slowly. You have to learn that muscles take time to build. If you're willing to be patient with the process, then real change will happen. If you get impatient and give up, then you'll never fully gain the benefits. Work on patience in every aspect of your life, and waiting on your health will get just a bit easier.

Consistency

While you're being patient, you also have to learn how to be consistent. One workout or one day of good eating won't do the trick. It has to be all day every day -- and it has to be over a long span of time. If you fall off the wagon, hop back on as soon as you can. But whatever you do, don't give up! Stick with the plan. Being consistent is one of the most important and most overlooked aspects of a healthy life. Just keep at it, and the results will eventually come.

Diet and exercise are important, but they mean nothing if you don't have the patience and consistency necessary to make it work. Practice these two important traits. Practice them in your health, in your job, with your kids, and in your life in general. As these areas are improved, you'll likely see improvements as a whole, and you may finally meet your health and body goals to leave you feeling better than ever.
