Energy Drinks: Get More Energy Without the Risk
By Genevieve Cunningham
Energy drinks are a common choice in our modern world. At one point in time, we looked to sports drinks and sodas for energy. These were our go-to for workouts and pick-me-up moments. But now? We have tons of options in the world of energy drinks. Unfortunately, energy drinks -- though they can definitely give you a boost -- aren't the healthiest option. In fact, they may even be dangerous. So what are we supposed to do? If you want to stay healthy and energized at the same time, take a look at what you can do instead.
The Dangers of Energy Drinks
When energy drinks first hit the scene, everyone loved them. They tasted good and they definitely gave a boost of energy. Why? Because they're packed with caffeine! As time went on, we started to learn a little more about these drinks. And one thing that became apparent is that energy drinks were potentially dangerous. Those who regularly consume energy drinks are at risk of anxiety, insomnia, and irritability. But even more frightening, too much caffeine can also significantly raise your risk of a stroke -- even for the very young. People began to report heart palpitations, high blood pressure, and a dangerously fast heart rate. Energy drinks were no longer risk-free, but instead came with serious risk to personal health. If you want a boost of energy, there are much healthier ways to do it.
How to Boost Energy in a Safe Way
If you need more energy on a daily basis, you're definitely not alone. Luckily, there are safe and effective ways to produce more energy. A few tips to try today include:
Start with water - Sounds crazy, right? How could water help with energy? When the body is dehydrated, our energy level plummets. By drinking more water, you can rehydrate the body, which in turn boosts energy, clears the mind, and brings other benefits to your health as a whole.
Set routines - It sounds like advice for a child, but the advice works! When it comes to sleep, stick to routines. Go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning. Wind down before bed and follow a soothing morning routine. Over time, you'll be shocked at how much this affects both health and happiness.
Eat well - Junk food will do absolutely nothing for your energy -- or your health! Make sure your diet is full of healthy foods like fruit, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats.
Move - When we sit around all the time, all we want to do is sit around a little more. It's addictive, but worse, it's energy draining. Instead, make sure you're getting plenty of movement. Exercise boosts your energy, stabilizes your mood, and improves your overall health.
If you're really lacking energy, you don't have to turn to the quick fix of energy drinks. Though they'll likely boost your energy, the risks just aren't worth it. Instead, use these tips to boost your energy from the inside out and feel better in your daily life starting today.
