Lifestyle Hacks: Drink More Water

By Sara Butler

Every single cell in your body needs water to function optimally. Your body can certainly get the fluid it needs from other drinks and foods, but water is the best -- and most efficient -- choice. Staying properly hydrated has other perks, too. It helps you boost your immune system and metabolism, helping to fuel you to take on the day. But despite all its advantages, many people still have difficulty drinking enough water daily. Here are some hacks you can use to make sure you're getting enough of the wet stuff.

Make It Alarming

You probably always have your smartphone on you. It's OK -- most people do. Use it to your advantage to help you get more water each day by setting alarms to help you remember to sip. Set your phone's alarm to go off every hour as a reminder to have some water. That can help you snap out of what you're doing and down some water. It's an easy reminder that can make a big difference in your health and wellness.

Rubber Band It

If you're a visual kind of person, then this is a hack made just for you. Start your day by putting eight rubber bands or hair ties around your wrist. Every time you have one cup of water, take a band away. Once you've removed them all, you know you're taking some huge steps toward proper daily hydration.

Make It a Game

Take your water bottle and use a marker to add hash marks to the side. Next to each mark, write a time and then challenge yourself to keep up with your water consumption by certain times each day. Try to remember to drink at the times written on your bottle and drink until you hit the next mark, then start again.

Get a Cool Water Bottle

It may sound a bit silly, but buying a water bottle you think is simply cool is a great step toward drinking more water each day. You can find a lot of bottles for sale to strike your fancy. If you like cats, get a cute cat bottle. If you're into bright colors, get a bottle that matches your mood. You can even find special bottles that allow you to easily infuse your water with fruit or herbs or that keep your water cold for hours at a time. Whatever you think will motivate you, you should use to your advantage.

Once you incorporate a few of these tricks into your day, then drinking more water will be easy!
