Be a Peach and Improve Your Health With Diet

By Tom Herrin

As it gets to be that time of year when people try to enhance their diets with better, fresher foods, a lot of them are looking for that special something that is a little different.  Everyone wants a change of pace or that special food that their family will love. Sometimes those efforts for healthier foods can go bad. The ones that everyone says are great but seem to taste like flavored cardboard get a little old.  When they can find something that is the real deal, family members may breathe a sigh of relief. One of those that is sure to be a hit is peaches.

They Are Good For Digestion

Peaches are a natural for some of those problems that so many people have with their digestive system.  Bloating, constipation, irregularity are but a few of those problems. Peaches are high in fiber and water.  Both of these can help to move food through the system smoothly. Anyone who has eaten any peaches can likely attest to that.  Peaches also can be a help to those who are struggling to maintain their weight. An average peach is only 68 calories, and with the fuller feeling provided by the fiber and water, they are a great choice.

They Are Full of Nutrients

Most people can use more nutrition for their foods.  They consume so many fast foods or ready-to-eat things from the frozen foods section that they are often lacking in some of the good things.  Peaches contain sizable amounts of Vitamins A and C as well as smaller amounts of many other vitamins. They also contain quite a few minerals, so they are an overall good package.

They Taste Good

Fresh peaches are a great snack.  Kids usually enjoy them. Adults do as well.  They can be eaten sliced with a meal or as a salad with other fruit.  They are always good at breakfast with cream, cottage cheese, or with cereal.  My personal favorite is with ice cream. When I was younger, everyone’s favorite homemade ice cream was peach.  They add a certain sweetness to the dish but lower the fat and the calories in total. That is what I call a pretty good healthy food.  I’m sure you can find lots of other ways to enjoy them.
