Is Your Skin as Good as You Would Like?

By Tom Herrin

Our skin is one of the parts of the body that many of us may not treat as well as we should.  It has a really important role in that it helps to prevent infection.  We can easily see this anytime we have a cut and feel the discomfort of the injury.  Our skin also provides most of what others see when they look at us.  While some may take great pains to see that it is kept in good condition, others seem to ignore it and act as if it is no big deal.  In truth, our skin is a major organ that plays a big part in overall health.

Sunscreen Can Provide Much Protection

Years ago, it seems as if sunscreen didn't exist.  At least, when I was young we had no idea what it was.  We simply spread on some sun lotion and thought that was all we could do.  If we were out in the sun for any length of time, we burned.  I never really fingered out why we used the lotion.  Using sunscreen today is a must.  It can offer protection from dangerous exposure from the sun.  It is suggested that we use a sunscreen that is mineral-based with SPF of 30.  Using it daily is also recommended.

Try Exfoliating

One of the best practices for revealing soft skin is exfoliating.  It can remove dry and dead skin.  The result may be softer skin than you have ever felt.  The first time I ever tried this practice was at a promotion in a mall.  As I rubbed my hands together, I was completely surprised at how soft my skin felt.  Removing skin that is in bad shape is a great way to keep the best skin showing.  It is a good practice for any of us to do on a regular basis.

Drink Water and Lots of It

It is hard to say enough about the importance of water in our lives.  We are totally dependent on it.  It helps to keep our blood flowing.  It cools us when it is hot.  It helps to flush out the impurities from our bodies through our skin.  It helps to maintain good levels of moisture, thus avoiding dry and wrinkled skin.  We all should make a point of drinking water throughout the day and not just when we get thirsty.  These and other practices may make all the difference in the health and appearance of our skin.
