Bread Can Play a Prominent Role in Health
By Tom Herrin
As most of us maintain a constant effort to build and preserve our health as best as possible, we often look at what things we can improve in our diets. Some of the choices are easy. We know that fried foods are not the best for us, and we know that too many carbs may pack on pounds. Beyond that, much of it is left up to our personal preferences and/or needs. For some people bread is off of their lists for one reason or another. Some of this may be due to past history of a lack of fiber, and some of it may be due to personal issues such as diabetes that bear watching.
Fortunately there are some very good products on the market today that can help support our efforts to eat well.
Oat Bread
It may be that you have never tried oat bread. This may be because many people have an impression of oats for being a little bland. This is not at all the case with oat bread, and oats have a really good reputation for helping to improve cholesterol. Oat bread also has plenty of nutrients. This same fiber may help people to feel full longer, so this is not a bad choice for those watching their weight even though it may not be so low in calories.
Sourdough Bread
This is a bread that most people have probably tried at some time or another. It is often served at restaurants with certain types of sandwiches or some special dishes. Its unique flavor is due to the process of making it that involves fermentation. This can help break down some of its ingredients and make them easier to absorb. This kind of bread is often higher in protein than most others as well. I enjoy eating sourdough breads with lots of other foods.
Choose Bread for Flavor and Health
We don't have to eat food that doesn't taste good any more. At one time, it may have been the case, but there are some great choices now. Read the labels to be sure that what you are looking for is contained in the bread, then try it. There are enough good options that we can keep trying until we find the one that is right for us and our families. We may as well make bread an important part of our diets again.
