Would You Take up Skating for Better Health?

By Tom Herrin

If you need more exercise, then you are like a lot of others.  Even when we know full well that we should do more to stay in shape, many of us have a hard time making ourselves do it.  For some, the problem is the redundancy of the activity.  It is often hard to become excited about repetition unless they see fast results.  Most of us like more variety and choose other things over those that seem to be the same monotonous thing all of the time.  This is where it helps to be able to think outside the box a bit more.  Creative activities can be much more motivating than others.

Rollerblading Can Be Fun

When I was young, the only skates we had were big and bulky.  While some people did fine on them, I had a tough time.  I always struggled to stay on my feet. It was hard enough for me to get away from something to hold on to.  The rollerblades available today are much different.  They are much more streamlined and lighter weight.  To me, they handle much better as well.  They are durable enough to be used just about anywhere, and using them can provide a pretty good workout.  As easy as they seem, there should be much greater motivation to use them.

Golfing Works for Some

Some people love golf and look forward to playing regularly.  If you would like to take up a game for fun, this could be a good one for socializing.  There are all kinds of competitions for those who need it.  If you decide to walk a course instead of drive, you will surely get pretty good exercise.  Even if you do ride, you can still get some good mild exercise, and that is a lot better than sitting around at home.

If You Are Daring, Try Kayaking

There are some great things out there for those who want a little more adventure.  Kayaks have become pretty popular in the last few years.  They are easy to transport, and you can put them into the water just about anywhere.  You can get some good exercise as you paddle, roll, or do whatever is needed.  There are also plenty of others who do it if you want some company.  If you do this, you are going to improve your health for sure.
